1. Will the written version of the examination be the same as the computer-based version? Yes, except that the computer-based version is built from randomly selected questions, whereas the written examination is a pre-selected set of questions.
2. Do you expect a significant increase in pass rate compared to paper 1.3? An increase in the pass rate seems likely. Two hours should be plenty of time for most students to complete the computer-based examination.
3. Most theorists listed in the Study Guide are from the UK or USA. Isn't this rather UK/USA-centric? The syllabus covers relatively few theories/models. Those selected are well-known and easily comprehended. The idea is that students should understand how theories/models help people to think about issues. Inclusion of a theory/model does not necessarily mean that it is regarded as being the best in its area or well-validated, just that it is representative of a way of thinking about and discussing an important issue.
4. What is the pass mark on the examination? 50% (i.e. 45/90).
6. Will computer-based examination questions for F1 involve calculations? No. It is possible that there will be more convergence in the range of computer-based question types across different papers at some future stage.
5. Students taking a paper with a conventional (discursive) answer format (P3) will not have had the prior experience of taking a related paper with a similar format, as computer-based examinations do not prepare students well for essay-type examinations. Will this adversely affect P3 pass rates? It will be important for students to practise giving more discursive answers before sitting such papers. F4 is now the paper in the formal diet of examinations which gives students their first experience of writing more discursive answers.
7. Will the actual computer-based examination questions be made public?
8. Will a student who has not studied for F1 be at a disadvantage when taking P3? Guidance will be given on which areas of F1 are essential underpinning for P3.
